The Banyan Tree Tunnel in Stuart Florida
If you have the pleasure of visiting our fair city sometime in the future, try taking a drive down Saint Lucie Blvd. and going through our famous Banyan Tree Tunnel. Here’s what it looks like on a bright sunny day. Before the 2004 hurricanes, it was even darker, but we did lose a few branches which opened it up a little. But in a few years, it will be back to its former splendor.
Did you know that the banyan Tree is native to India? It was introduced to Florida by Thomas Alva Edison in 1925 when he planted the first one in the US. It was around 4 feet tall at the time. This tree is still alive covering over 400 feet, reported as being the third largest Banyan tree in the world.

What is the address so we can go see?
It’s a section of Saint Lucie Blvd, so there’s no address. It’s south of Indian St. and northeast of Dixie Highway off of Saint Lucie Blvd.
I have an image of this same street I’d love to share with you. How can I get it to you?
Thanks, Lauren. I saw that you also registered on my website. I have responded to that email and you can attach the image to your response.
Thank you
Wrong street! Should be Bridge Road in Hobe Sound.
Hi Robbie. There is actually a Banyan Tree Tunnel on Saint Lucie Blvd in Stuart as well.
They are not Banyon trees on Bridge Rd in Hobe Sound!
Hi Dana. This post is referring to Saint Lucie Blvd. in Stuart FL near Sandsprit Park and not Bridge Road in Hobe Sound.
Traveled to the spot on SE St Lucie Blvd and it appears that there is no longer a tunnel.
It was there last week when I drove down Saint Lucie Blvd.
So is the tunnel there or not? Want to check it out!
Yes, the tunnel is still there.
